struggle

My Father has always had Health problems but neither mom nor I were prepared for what this year had in store for us. Currently my mother, Elizabeth Neese, is paying $150.00 a month on a $7, 000 college loan for me and she cannot afford to take out any more loans. I am working at an after school day care but I am unable to pay for college myself. Money has been really tight between the two of use because of a sudden life changing illness in our family.
Last year my father, James Neese, suffered a brain hemorrhage in his occipital lobe causing him to go partially blind and weak on his left side. He was first hospitalized on July 9, 2009 at Medical City Hospital. In need of brain surgery and in need of a specialist Medical City transferred him to Baylor Hospital on July 13. He was transferred by American Medical Response, and remained at Baylor until July 31. While at Baylor he had two operations to correct an abnormal AV Fistula and received a coiling procedure to stop the hemorrhage. After a successful surgery he was transferred to Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation at Gaston on July 3. On September 20th we were told he was finally able to come home but he would need 24hr care. I switched to night classes so I could watch him in the morning and Mom would see to him in the evening. Baylor Rehabilitation also suggested him continuing with rehab at home. Gentiva Rehabilitation Without Walls provided care in our home from October 19, 2009 to December 6, 2009. Even though he’s finished rehab, he is still under 24/7-family and friend daily supervision. He was hospitalized on March 3 again for a brain seizure and on March 9 for Heart Failure complications. He takes 13 different pills morning and night. His daily medications cost around $150 to $200 a month.
My mother and I have had to miss work frequently due to stress related illnesses such as fatigue, migraines, and upper respiratory infections. My mother was bitten on the right hand by our dog during a dogfight and was treated at Prima Care on 8/29/2009. I missed a week of work after being diagnosed with the Swine flu at Doctors Hospital emergency room on 9/19/2009. My mom also missed work to care for me as well as my father since I was no longer able to help with dad’s 24/hr supervision. And in addition to these other illnesses my mother was diagnosed with hematuria on April 2010. She has had a CT Scan and will be monitored by her Urologist and Gynecologist to insure it does not become life threatening. All of these illnesses have caused frequent absences; consequently our paychecks have been docked.
With Diabetes, COPD, Heart Failure, Stroke and Brain Seizures my father’s medical condition will require numerous daily medications, frequent hospitalizations, doctor appointments, and constant supervision. My mother and I are doing the best we can but we just cannot pay for college at this time. Please provide me with financial aid so that I might continue my studies without creating more financial stress upon my parents or myself.
